Recently there is a new fad that has started among many women who are supposedly members of the assembly our Savior Yahushua. Yahuwah certainly never gave a law like that. This fad is to cover their heads in some fashion with a cloth of some sort. Where they get this idea from in scripture I am not sure, but I suspect that it is from the following passage as it is the only passage that deals with the subject.
1 Korinthios (Corinthians 11:1-16) ¶ Imitate me, just as I also the Anointed. 2 ¶ Now I praise you, brothers, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you. 3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is the Anointed, the head of woman is man, and the head of the Anointed is Yahuwah. 4 Each man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, puts to shame his head. 5 Moreover each woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered puts to shame the head herself, for it is also one as if her head were shaved. 6 For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. 7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and splendor of Yahuwah, but woman is the splendor of man. 8 For man is not from woman, but woman from man. 9 Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. 10 For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the messengers. 11 Nevertheless, neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Master. 12 For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman, but all things are from Yahuwah. 13 Judge among yourselves. Is it proper for a woman to pray to Yahuwah uncovered? 14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him? 15 But if a woman has long hair, it is a splendor to her, for hair is given to her for a cloak.
The only problem with using this passage as the “rule” for women to cover their heads is that they have not included the entire passage. The following verse completes that passage.
16 But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor the assemblies of Yahuwah.
As you can easily see, the head coverings, long hair on a man, etc., and their use or non–use was strictly a local custom among those of Korinthios and was not a binding rule of the assembly of Yahuwah.
It was a custom among the Ibriy virgin girls and widows of the period before Yahushua to sometimes wear a veil in the presence of adult males, but to my knowledge they were never forced to wear a head covering such is seen on islamic women. That practice belongs to islam and needs to stay there.
I would guess that these ladies have also been taught that they must keep the “feasts” of Yahuwah and eat only from the "clean" foods, and obey other things of the Law of Mosheh. To those ladies I say study scripture for yourself and quit listening to the men that are telling you these things. They are trampling the blood of Yahushua underfoot and are leading you astray. We are under the Perfect Law of liberty and not the restrictive Law of Mosheh. The evidence for that is rife in scripture and I have other articles and such on my web page that go into detailed explanations about the subject.
To the men that are teaching this error I say STOP! Learn the truth of scripture for yourself and then teach it correctly. Otherwise the lake of fire awaits not only the women that are following this false doctrine but also those that are teaching it as you will be held doubly accountable for teaching falsehood.
